DWTS host, Tom Bergeron, comments on Bristol Palin’s performance

Tom Bergeron, the host of Dancing with the Stars, has commented on Bristol’s performance thus far in the series:

“The complaining amuses me to no end,” Bergeron says. “Whenever someone says that Bristol shouldn’t be there to me, I almost inevitably say, ‘Of course, you’re voting for…?’ And they go, ‘Yeah, I didn’t vote.’ I have no sympathy for people who are kvetching about — and this is from a gentile — who’s still there and who’s gone.

“She’s not the strongest dancer, obviously,” he says. “But she … represents what I think is the best of our show, somebody who comes Day 1 and is completely out of their element and has shown a clear growth as a dancer. And she clearly has a massive or sufficient amount of viewer support to keep her in despite low scores.”

“Is it political? I don’t know, But that just speaks to the importance of voting.”

  1. Debbie says:

Although not a fan of her Mom, I think that Bristol has taken herself as I would, knowing nothing about dance and giving it all she’s got. How can there be a comparison between a veteran dancer like Jennifer Gray (she’s a beautiful dancer) and Bristol.

Give her a chance – I believe she is her own young woman and she is working hard. She has done it with class, a smile, great chemistry with her dance partner, Mark and a maturity beyond her years. If she does well tonight I will vote for her – she’ll have to earn it and I’ve never voted before, so we’ll see……….

  2. Tracie says:

I love that Bristol is still going! She deserves the same respect from the veiwers just like Brandy did. The way I see it is that if you don’t vote then you have no rights to even express your opinion. I have been watching DWTS since it’s irst season and I will continue to watch, in fact it is my favorite show and I never miss it, and yes I vote every Monday nights. I was so happy to see Brandy go also, I did not like her and really never have so I was extremely happy to see her go. I am looking so forward to tonight to see Bristol and Kyle dance the free-style. Good luck to both of them.

  3. Tonie says:

I really give her a lot of credit! How would you do if you were thrust into the spotlight before millions of people…I watch just to see her perform!!! Go Bristol…good luck!

  4. Ishootpalinstoo says:

what a loser ……..can’t keep her legs shut like mommy can’t keep her big mouth shut !

  5. Paula Hitchcock says:

I think it is too bad that people don’t see what Miss Bristol has accomplished. I am right there with Tom. She exemplifies the show. She started with no experience dancing and her improvement is marked! She has shown us that she is willing to give it all she’s got and no, she’s not perfect. But she doesn’t give up.

Do you really believe that voting for Bristol is a Tea Party Plot??? Give me a break, I am more likely to believe that there are 100,000 teenagers who are voting for Bristol because she is attempting something many of them would never even consider trying.

Hats off to you for the gumption to do something and stand proud! You go Girl… Bristol you are a winner no matter whether you win the competition or not.

    • gsvdgsvd@yahoo.com says:

I agree with you. I like her and I am so proud of her. She ignore all the bad comments she encounter because she is determine to work and support her baby. She is not a very lucky kid when it comes to the father of her baby. he is a ………

  6. kathryn pitre says:

    I am a great grandmother,you are a doll.
    Vote for you every week.
Let them eat cake, keep dancing baby.

  7. Lily Barranco says:

I would like to give you many congrats for your efforts and progress in DWTS. I watched your improvements and how you have come out of your shell day in and day out. I’m sure it was not easy for you, since you come from a very sheltered life, don’t worry, I was raised the same way, and although at the time I was a little bit rebellious, I’m glad my parents raised me that way. I’m 58 years old and I see myself in you, I also had a child very young, the boy married me but it only lasted 1 year and 10 months before he walked away, then when my son was 6 years old I met my soul mate and have been married for 30 years. And regarding your body, it is beautiful, you have beautiful legs and now after the show it looks like you lost the last of the baby fat, you’re a “10″; just look at Jennifer Lopez or Jessica Simpson or Mariska Hargitay (her mother was Jayne Mansfield) these actresses have curves in their bodies. Don’t ever feel that you are fat or big, google Nicole Kidman and read an interview she gave where they asked her if she could change any thing in her body, what would it be, and she replied “I want Jennifer Lopez’s hips, butt and thighs”. So you see, those who don’t have it, want it! Don’t ever change your ways, your prince charming will come and will love your baby and you for who you are, not for who he wants you to be. Good luck in the future, Lily (a republican lady in Tampa, Florida)

  8. John Rossi says:

I guess it depends on what the show is all about! Is it about the best dancer or is it about the most improved dancer! I agree that Jennifer and Derek are the strongest dancers but Bristol and Mark are the most improved dancers and put on one heck of a show. She gets low scores because the judges are up and down like yo yo’s. Tonight Len said she had a fantastic dance and give her a 9 and the other two give her an 8. I believe Len knows a little more about dancing than the other two. Bristol going against Jennifer would be like me going against Derek. He would win the best dancer award but I would win the most improved dancer for the simple reason he is so great there is no room for improvement…

    Go Bristol

    • John Rossi says:

Oh! By the way, I’m not a tea partier and I have voted for Bristol from day one.

      • Sue says:

Bristol is sweet and really tried – this is about being the best. I am a fan of the Palin’s but Bristol, this is not about people picking on you – be proud of what you accomplished…but also recognize that you are not the best. Sorry, but the truth is the truth…You are a fantastic young lady – this has never been about politics and I am really sad that it has turned out that way. I am ready never to watch this show again and frankly really thinking about whether I would vote for Sarah again – I did in the last election…just very disappointed in the way this all played out.

        • bruce says:

By mentioning her mother YOU make it about politics instead of keeping the focus on dancing. What does voting or not voting for Sarah have to do with Bristol’s ability?

    • Joanne says:

I think Bristol has shown a lot of improvement. And I don’t understand why people are so mean to her. She is a very likable girl. My mother always said if u can’t say anything nice then don’t talk at all. you are a great girl people are just jealous of u and how u are getting your life on track. Best luck and keep up the good work.

    • Nancy says:

I have been voting for Bristol because she doesn’t complain and you can really see the improvement in her dancing. The best dancer has not always won this contest. Look at Mario and Smith.
I wish Bristol the best and no matter what happens tonight hold your head high and be proud of what you have done on DWTS.

  9. Sherry says:

i dont watch tv, and i’ve never seen the show. i saw video clips online of all her dances, and read all about it. i registered to vote this weekend and got my daughter to vote for bristol too. i want her to win because i think for someone who couldnt dance, to be able to learn to dance so well now, imagine if she’d had years of performing experience like those other stars- she would be better than them. she’s shown true bravery trying so hard at something she’s never done. brandy looks like a stuck-up girl who’s full of herself, and maks seemed a surly poor sport. bristol and mark act like they are really having fun, and that’s what people want to see. that mark is a cute guy who seems so nice in interviews, and he takes such good care of bristol, and he’s a wonderful dancer! i loved their dancing together, i thought they did a wonderful job. i really liked that paso doble and the dance where he dressed like a bum and their first dance was hot. i liked that quickstep i think it was with the swingy little dress. i dont like all this picking on her about her weight, girls need role models with real bodies, not lettuce eating deprived surly witches. her very first dance showed girls with real bodies can look hot too. i’m voting for bristol and mark because i think they deserve to win, not because of some politics, and i think a lot of other people are voting for the same reason. GO BRISTOL AND MARK !!!

  10. Winona Cross says:

To Bristol, I say I am amazed by your courage and ability to stand strong–and, dance–with all of the garbage being thrown about at you and your family. I admire you for beginning the DWTS season just as I would, with no dancing experience. I am as clumsy as an ox, reaching the down hill time of my life, obese, and in poor health. I would like to believe that I could begin learning to dance as a complete amateur and end being able to make it through many styles of dance with obvious improvement and an obvious extreme improvement in self-confidence and class. Mark Ballas has given you a lifetime gift. Iwill admit that I am a Republican. I am not a member of the tea-party. My political affiliation has not affected how I vote. I guess I take the show at its primary level. The most improved. The person who climbs the mountain of dance one foot and handhold at a time. I hope you do take home the mirror ball. Jennifer and Kyle are great! They do have experience in front off cameras and in entertainment. You didn’t. I don’t know if I could have achieved any sort of comfort level in front of worldwide cameras. Keep the confidence you have attained. By the way, I’m a disabled Registered Nurse with many years working in women’s health and with newborns. I hope you continue your advocavy for abstinence. I’ve assisted in too many labors and deliveries of single, teen moms.

  11. Janette StPeter says:

Bristol represents so many of the audience. She is the most improved and she is trying her hardest even when others would just quit. I thinks this shows what type of person she it. She reminds me of David against Golath. You go Girl!!

  12. Faith Reichert says:

I think you should drop out, you suck as a dancer, and if it wasn’t for you mom and her supporters you would not have made it this far, and they had to cheat to even get you this far. i would have voted for you mom before but not now, if you have to get your supporters to cheat for you kid to win what will you do in the white house.

  13. Anne says:

GO BRISTOL YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. With no dance background and no showbiz training you have done an amazing job!

  14. michele says:

rise above Bristol. Dont let the BS affect you

  15. Margaret says:

Bristol – We love you! Can’t you tell that from the support the tv audience has given you? I’m not a hate-monger; we are out there supporting you – and your mom! Please stop saying things about all the people out there who hate you and your mom. You have been so fun to watch you come out and shine. You are a beautiful person; show us all!
I’m proud of you! Obviously, I voted for you!

  16. Beverly Klima says:

Congratulations Bristol! I am amazed at your courage. I think to myself, “She is her Mother’s daughter!” There will always be “haters” in this world, but you show what it takes to rise above them all. You are a winner!

  17. Katherine Ivey says:

Bristol, I am so very proud of you for showing such grace and dignity when you learned of your third place finish. Those are qualities of a real winner!

  18. Go Bristol!! My family of Texans is so proud of you. The hard work paid off, and your tenacity to keep going even when the dance was difficult was something to be admired.

When are you coming to Houston to speak on abstinence? I am the mother of four kiddos; a daughter, (gorgeous!) 20, attending Texas Tech; a son 19, (handsome, witty, hilarious, outgoing!) attending Navarro in the very small town of Corsicana; our autistic son (teaches me patience, hope and God is good) is 17, a Junior in High School and lives with his dad just two miles away; and lastly, a daughter, (hilarious, talented, witty, charming) 15 whose a Sophomore. I spent so many days, even when they were young, about abstinence – although they didn’t what it was called.

I am so very proud of you,
    Carla Jackson

  19. Nancy Puckett says:

I am very proud of you Bristol I think you worked so hard and never made excuses as in a bad back you came the furthest as far as I am concerned. You were my pick and bless your lil baby and Happy Holidays. I don’t think DWTS gave you the credit you deserve. We wouldnt mind at all if your were the first female President of the US you and your family will represent us well. You were awesome you should have won. Your remind me so much of my youngest dt but taller she is awesome and very powerful as are you.

  20. AVO says:

I am not a dancing with the star fan. I believe the public is hiped up on these type of shows to redirect their mind from the real issues of the U.S. government and our countries issues. I do respect this young Palin’s goal to complete the show not like her mother that quick on an entire state. People deem her mother a bear of sorts but I just think she is a quitter..

  21. Deanna says:

    Bristol,
I thought your dancing was just fine! I really admire the fact that you took this on, and I voted for you (and no, it was not politically motivated). All of the others were performers for a living, and for you to go up against them shows the determination and character you have. Just ignore all the haters, (and that is a really appropriate term) they are very sad people just looking for the bad in everything.

  22. Wendy says:

I don’t think Bristol is the sweet little introvert everyone makes her out to be. The “middle finger” comment she made in front of millions of people was in extremely poor taste. She should have taken the high road and not acknowledged the biases at all. She played right into it. She’s her mother’s daughter?????
She should have been eliminated a long time ago. She lacks rhythm and charisma….I found her dancing VERY boring. The imitation of the jive on GMA today was pathetic next to Kyle’s. POINT YOUR TOES BRISTOL I bet you heard that a lot from Mark.

  23. TomE2L8 says:

ONLY in the good ole’USA can —-well I take that back,,,,There are countries out there where the Dictator in charge FORCES his/her opinions upon the subjects–this is NO different,,,,Bristol had NO BUSINESS being in this fourm PERIOD,,,it’s like trying to fit a square peg in a role hole—a monkey outfitted in a ballet tutu on the National stage,,,,talk about entitlement issues,,,,spoiled rotten brat who thinks she can get away with ANYTHING including having a bastard child,,,and the good ole’lil church ladies praise her for being her….plz,,,,America has FINALLY hit the bottom of the sewer pit!!!!

  24. MKJ says:

We the people could see you had the host ,the judges and media against you. Your OK

  25. karen says:

I am an Alaskan, but not a fan of Sarah Palin. In saying that, I feel that the media and some of the public are so hateful to Bristol. She is just a young person caught up in all of this. I think she is doing the right thing and taking advantage of her 15 minutes of fame and capitalizing on it. I feel that she practiced and competed to the best of her ability. I would rather see this fighting spirit than seeing a young single mom sitting on the couch collecting welfare. I think she can become a good role model for young people regarding taking on responsibilities. She is moving ahead and turning her life around. Gee, if her dancing is the worst thing about her………..thats not bad afterall she could be doing a whole lot worse things.

  26. Anne Beard says:

At least the Tea Party (what a joke) didn’t prevail in the end of DWTS, so there is still justice in this world. I think it’s a shame when politics interfers with entertainment and I am of the opinion that D W TS should be about talent, not popularity, and that the judges should be the only ones to vote on a performance. Otherwise, you get what happened this time with Palin.

    • bruce says:

In other words if the winner has a “Democratic” affiliation there is no problem but because the contestant’s mother is a republican with political views that do not agree with your’s . . . . . . hhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmm

    • Tom Jones says:

What about Barbara Strisand, Ed Asnor, Bruce Springstein, and the queen of the political numbsculls, Jane Fonda? It was also apparent the judges had an agenda of their own.

  27. Dave says:

What is wrong with you people. She had a baby out of wedlock and now she a star. What makes her a star.Very good person for our daughters to look up too.No one can say a thing when there daughter has a baby and dump by her boyfriend.I live in Wasilla,Alaska and they are not what you think they are.Never worked in her life and lives off mom.Good person for our teen girls look up too.Useles.Just like her mother. She works for two years and then dumps people who voted for her,and put her in office and runs off too Washington D.C.. Thanks for nothing.

  28. Dan says:

Bristol – I think you are adorable, courageous and am very proud of your performance in DWTS. You are obviously a “chip off the old block” kiddo!! Tell your Mom to go ahead and take the plunge into 2012, we need her kind of common sense in WDC. Lord knows we haven’t seen it there in a long, long time. Instead of President Reagan’s famous, “Mr. Gorbachev, knock down this wall!” maybe we’ll hear your Mom say, “Mr. Soros, knock it off!” Check out my blog Bristol, I think you’ll enjoy it.

  29. J.R. Reid says:

Hey,Bristol I was just wandering assuming you plan to attend college somewhere down the road(no joke intended)if would might consider Notre Dame as your choice?!!!!!

  30. paula says:

forget all those so called commedians who ger there kits talking about people ar real pettythey are not funny for real they need to look in the mirror t there own lives and joke about that they are old trying to stay funny they need to give it up ignore them

  31. Bonnie says:

I think Bristol did improveover time, and good for her. But the show os about the best dancer, not the improved dancer. Brandy should have come in 2nd place, and Bristol should have been 5th of 7th place. She had had no movement in her body, just her feet.
If that had been someone else, Linn would have negative response. So it’s about a lot of hypocracy, no honesty, even with the judges. I don’t care who you are or whom your parent are, it’s about truth, and that wasn’t excercised on the show. And yes I did vote, but only for the best dancer. I think Linn is too old, and out of touch with the youth. All is fine for me this year because I will not watch, I’ll be watching that fine, geourgeous Blair Underwood in his series.
